Rehabilitation centre "Tervete"
Location
Rehabilitation centre "Tervete" is situated in the district of Dobele, region of Zemgale, 75km to the south-west from the capital of Latvia - Riga. Tervete parish is one of the most interesting places to visit in Latvia. There you will find a very nice hilly countryside with a pretty scenic park.
The buildings of the rehabilitation centre were erected in 1924 and it is served for a long time as a tuberculosis sanatorium. Nowadays people are going here for a health cure using hydropathical treatments. Also ordinary tourists staying in the centre for an overnight also. Despite to the modern recreation requirements, the centre is offering only a simple comfort. It is assumed that in the future decision must be made to improve or to change the situation to a wide extent. The centre is run by a state.
Patients, tourists and the local staff are producing approximately 30% of the total wastewater. The rest of 70% are produced at the sanatoria's water therapies. Due to only existing two 30m3 large sedimentation tanks, it is necessary to install a biological treatment as well as to separate hydrotherapy water and the rainwater (roof area 3000m2) from the ordinary sewage.
The only mechanical treated wastewater is discharged to the Tervete river by a pipeline (length 550m)
